In just over 8 weeks, close to 450 of you have signed up as a member of the Mothers Online Movement (MOM). Your support of this important issue is very significant to those of us who started the movement, but most importantly to the children who are victims of sexual abuse and online exploitation. THANK YOU for being a voice! As you focus your energies over the next couple of weeks on celebrating the spirit of the season and if you are still contemplating that perfect gift, I encourage you to consider a gift of giving. Your gift will help us support the great support provided to these children at Toronto's Sick Kids Children's Hospital and have impact on their lives in a very positive way. You can make a gift donation securely at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/124291. Peace and joy to you all this season and best wishes for the New Year!Paula KnightMothers Online Movement (MOM) Founder andKINSA Advisory Boardwww.mothersonlinemovement.ca

The Ontario Legislature has passed Bill 37, the ChildPornography Reporting Act, 2008. All three parties supported the bill.
The penalty for not reporting child pornography to theentity to be designated by the regulations can be a fine up to $50,000 and twoyears in jail.
MPP Laurel Broten singled out some important contributionsthat made this bill a reality:
I want to take a minute from the floor of the Legislaturetoday to acknowledge those who have worked every single day across ourprovince, across our country, to better protect children in Ontario.Paul Gillespie, who's the president of Kids' Internet Safety Alliance and aformer Toronto police officer, has seen more horrific images than anyone canever imagine, and Paul continues to be an important advocate on behalf ofchildren. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection and their executivedirector, Lianna McDonald, have been very supportive of the proposedlegislation and have helped bring it to fruition; the Canadian Centre for AbuseAwareness in Ontario, John Muise, the director of public safety, and EllenCampbell, their president; Beyond Borders, Rosalind Prober and the great workthat that organization is doing; the Gatehouse child abuse advocacy centre; theOntario Provincial Police; the Toronto Police Service; the Ontario Associationof Chiefs of Police, and in particular, their president, Chief Bill Blair.Today, as we stand on the floor of the Legislature to debatethis bill, we can know that Ontarians are with us in the importance placed bythem on the protection of children. A Sun Media/Nanos Research poll from May 2008found that 94% of Ontarians support the reporting of child pornography.
